🎆🐹5 things you didn’t know about a #Guineapig wizard!🐹🎆

6325271_origHi everyone!

So I recently posted onto instagram a “ask me questions” post as I really wanted us to get to know each other a bit better. Especially since the Guineapig Wheekly UK became 1 year last month! So here it is my question and answers!

Question one from Tinylittlefurries asks: What got you into Guinea pigs?

“Stephanie my sister ( other half to the Guineapig Wheekly UK) is actually the one who got me into guinea pigs. She had them as pet’s herself for years and I never really caught the guinea pig bug until christmas 2014. She came across Cookie & Gigi in the garage of an old neighbour whilst we were delivering christmas cards and came running to me with them both to which I immediately fell in love.

Question  two Honey_hopper_smarty asks : Why did you choose guinea pigs as your pets?

Well my family has always had pets. When I was a teen I had Syrian hamsters mostly and then up till about a year ago I came across Cookie and Gigi my two male guinea pigs you guys see so much!

Question three Tinylittlefurries asks :  How can you develop your own unique drawings?

Developing your own unique drawings comes from two things “your imagination” because no one else thinks creatively like you do and from “practice”.You can find inspiration in everyday life, things you see randomly or in other people’s drawings,  for example how they compose a picture, the style they decided to draw in and more but then you add your own twists to that inspiration to make a drawing your own.

Question four  Elvisgiuneapig1 asks : Where do you get your guinea pig toys?

We buy most of our Guinea pig toys from a uk pet website called Viovet , I really like the variety of pet toys they have. However we don’t always buy toys for our piggies as more often than not they don’t last 5 seconds, so we make our own! Here’s one we make regularly and you can try it yourself ( click here)!

Question five Hello Lorrey asks : How long have you been drawing?

I’ve been drawing since the age of two. My mum used to peg numerous pieces of paper to an old fire guard in our living room and I’d make my way across each one as I filled each page. I’m also left-handed to and went to art college and university to pursue my career as an illustrator.

Question six Honey_Hopper_smarty asks : Why did you choose guinea pigs as your pets and not other animals?

Well in the past as I mentioned I’ve had Syrian hamsters as pets but as I got older I got so busy with work that it made it hard to find time ( plus pets can be expensive). I didn’t realise how calm and loving guinea pig’s could be and it was after a tough patch in my life that I found them very caring healing creatures. They’re so full of personality and I love to be able to dedicate my time to them. I feel if I have even more pet’s it would be hard to split myself between so many.

Question seven Hello Lorrey asks : Are guinea pigs your favourite thing to draw or do you like to draw other things as well?

I do love to draw Guinea pig’s and I have thought of trying to draw more rabbits, hamster and little pets like that. Another favourite of mine to illustrate is woodland florals and little creatures that live within it. If you didn’t know last year I illustrated a huge owl as part of the big hoot in Birmingham charity project and raised £5000 for a rare disease unit for children (be sure to check it out!).

Thanks so much for those of you who asked me such lovely questions to make this post! I’d love to know 3 things about you so please comment below and I can say hello to each one of you!

  1. Hi Katie,
I really like your illustrations! They are super cute.
I’ve never raised guinea pigs – I’ve always had cat companions – but I can really relate to what you say about the caring, healing nature of furry companions. My cat always seems to know when I’m having a bad day and need a bit of attention, and I’m sure your little guys are the same.
Right, I’m off to check out your artwork!
    Have a great day 🙂

  2. Hi! I really liked this post because my brother used to have a guinea pig. He lived a long time, but it was still really sad when he passed. I draw too! And your illustrations are so cute! I’d like to potentially get my own guinea pigs in the future, but not until I can give them the attention they deserve. I enjoyed this post. 🙂
