It’s happened…. my guineapig ate my hair! I was having some very much deserved cuddly time with Cookie and Gigi ( after Cookie had a recent abcess and dose of antibiotics cuddles are always the best medicine!). It was then that I heard this rather strange munching and being sat there like rapunzel with her hair all a flow turned to see a chunk of my hair in Gigi’s mouth!??!

Gigi don’t eat my hair!!??!?

To my dismay I began to slowly pull my hair out of Gigi’s chops to find the end had been munched off by 2 inches! The cheeky monkey knew no different and I sat in awe at the now shortened lock of hair that was attached to my head.

So this makes me ponder why do Guinea pigs eat hair?

  1. It must resemble hay to them? Therefore my hair is a ginger pile of yummy grass…
  2. They just happen to be peckish and there’s nothing else around to eat
  3. My guineapig felt like trying about of hair styling and decided to give me an up do!

What are your thoughts? Why do you think Guineapigs eat hair?

  1. Guinea pigs have been known to nip other piggies hair, I’m unsure exactly why but many people say it’s a dominance/conflict behaviour. So perhaps she thinks you’re a guinea pig now? πŸ™‚
I love my hair, and so take great caution to keep them away from it!
